From Clonmel.
Michael English of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary — founder of IMPT.io, the carbon-positive hotel platform. The companies are headquartered in South Tipperary because the family is.
The home base
Clonmel sits on the river Suir at the foot of the Comeragh mountains, in the south of County Tipperary. Population around seventeen thousand. The Irish name Cluain Meala means “meadow of honey” — generous, but the town has earned it. It is where I was raised, where my children grew up, and where IMPT.io, Bro AI, and the Ireland Quantum compute commitment all run from. The kitchen table is the head office, and that has been a deliberate choice for fifteen years.
Most founders eventually leave for Dublin or London. I have not. The pull is real — faster fundraising, denser talent, larger stages — but the travel and retail industries IMPT was built to serve do not live in capital cities. They live in towns like Clonmel. Building a global hotel platform from a small Irish town keeps the product honest about who it is supposed to serve.
What I built
IMPT.io is a hotel booking and shopping platform. 1.7 million hotels across 195 countries. Every booking removes one tonne of CO₂, paid out of IMPT's commission, recorded on a public blockchain. The traveller pays nothing extra; the hotel partner doesn't lose any revenue; the math runs continuously and is auditable by anyone. We are, structurally, the first travel platform whose climate impact is provable in court rather than in a marketing brochure.
The company has extended into a tokenised loyalty layer (IMPT Token), a Mastercard/Visa debit card (IMPT Card), a marketplace of more than 20,000 partner brands (IMPT Shop), and — coming next — an AI-native booking agent that handles discovery, comparison, booking and offset in a single conversation.
Family and the hotel side
Outside IMPT, our family runs MYC Hospitality, which owns the Ocean Hotel at Dunmore East in Co. Waterford. The hotel suffered a serious fire on 18 June 2021. Insurance proceedings against ERGO Versicherungsgruppe AG remain in active litigation, with our solicitor Ciarán Leavy at Lavelle Partners in Dublin handling the matter. We do not intend to sell Ocean Hotel before the case resolves. We do intend to reopen it.
Bro AI, the second of our companies, is a grief companion application I am building in memory of my daughter Bronagh. She died on 24 April 2025, aged eighteen. The work is dedicated to her, and to the Tipperary families who have lost children too soon. broai.ai launches on the first anniversary, 24 April 2026.
